Have you noticed how the popularity of industrial interiors has remained strong? Unlike many fleeting trends, industrial style kitchens are here to stay and for good reason.

Industrial styling utilises a lot of metal and wood, making it both attractive and functional. These materials stand up to heavy use, which is crucial for any kitchen. And surfaces such as aluminium and stainless steel are easy to clean and maintain.

But these materials aren’t simply practical, they also fit in with our growing desire to create sustainable kitchens. Reclaimed wood and vintage items also fit in well with industrial interiors, helping you to achieve an eco-conscious design.

Being able to combine industrial styles with vintage and rustic styles also gives us more opportunity to personalise and add character to our kitchens. Plus, this mix of old and new means an industrial interior fits into practically any type of home.

But despite all the advantages that an industrial style kitchen has, you do need to get the balance of materials and products right to curate the perfect space. You don’t want it to feel too cold, so it’s wise to use more than just silver metals and white walls. Bringing in plenty of warm tones keeps it feeling homely.

Try a mix of metallic fixtures and fittings such as stainless steel, black aluminium and brass. Glazed doors and dividing panels with black metallic frames work well at creating a light-filled space, enabling an industrial style to work in kitchens that are small or need to be flexible. You could coordinate this with matt black taps, bar stools and light shades. Stainless steel worktops, appliances and sinks bring in a lighter element, while patinated brass on handles and light fittings adds a bit of character.

Wood is great for incorporating extra warmth into your industrial design. It could come in the form of an island cladded in reclaimed wood, shelving made from planks or a herringbone floor. An exposed brick wall adds warmth too and brings a rustic edge to your styling. The industrial trend is also adaptable enough for you to add splashes of colour from artwork or painted cabinets and homely touches such as comfy sofas and plants.

Get the balance right and an industrial style kitchen is a timeless space that reflects you and blends in with the rest of your home.
