Kitchen trends 2024: cooking up big and bold designs

Kitchens are going big in 2024 as trends for the year ahead focus on bold statements. Our kitchens will be taking a dark and moody turn as we embrace warmer materials and colours. Wood with deep grains in walnut shades along with black and heavily-veined marble and porcelain will give our splashbacks and worktops more drama. Highly-textured tiles will also appear to make a statement.

Tastes are also set to turn eclectic in 2024 as we start to combine different materials and experiment with old and new styles. You can expect bare wood alongside painted cabinetry with modern appliances and vintage accessories thrown into the mix.

Recent colour trends have seen us willing to open our minds up to trying new shades in the kitchen. In 2024, this will go a step further with bold blocks of colour giving us a lively backdrop to our kitchens. You can expect deep orange and cobalt blue to creep in amongst the ever-popular green, white and black hues.

Taking colour pops to another level, metallic elements continue to be popular with brushed and antique brass tones really taking hold. But there’s also a growing trend towards stainless steel too. This is partly fuelled by the wealth of cooking shows and dramas such as Boiling Point, and partly by the material’s hygienic and easy-to-clean nature. So, expect to see sinks, worktops and appliances shine in 2024.

This feeds into another trend for kitchens in 2024 – embracing stress-free design. We’ll be looking for kitchens that are easy to use and clean, to help us save valuable time. With this we’ll see more innovative designs using low-maintenance materials, including double sinks in stainless steel with colanders, boards and racks like the Abode System Sync, for speedy food prep and post-meal clean-ups.

Next year, we’ll also see communal seating arrangements bringing dining ever closer to the cooking action, so there’s no separation between friends and family. This means the emphasis for tables, chairs and stools will be on comfort, with plenty of space for everyone to gather around.

A final big trend for 2024 is the rise of the hidden pantry. Tucked away behind panelling, it keeps clutter completely out of sight. The function of the pantry is also set to increase. No longer just an extended larder, they’ll now be equipped with worktops and appliances, making them hard-working spaces.
